Fossil Superb Eurypterid Silurian Both Paddles & Walking Legs New York COA 3934

Here is a superb fossil Eurypterid, species Eurypterus remipes, from the Silurian, about 420 million years ago. Long before the first dinosaur.  The Eurypterid measures about 3.5 inches, on a natural plate of shale about 5.6 inches by 2.3 inches.  The Eurypterid is in-Situ, or still in its original resting spot.  No paint or restoration has been added.
Found in Lang's Quarry, Fiddler Green Formation, Phelps Member, Herkimer County, New York.  Nice Eurypterids are extremely sought after by collectors.
This particular specimen has a natural dark preservation, which contrasts well with the lighter shale.
This particular specimen is also one of the better Eurypterids, in that it has many appendages that are often lacking. The tail (telson) is there, both paddles (swimming legs) are complete and extended, the head looks great, and a number of the walking legs are clearly visible.  Hard to tell the exact number of walking legs, as it appears that a couple are right next to each other.
All in all, a splendid addition to a very nice fossil collection.
Eurypterids are often referred to as "Sea Scorpions".

We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. Finally, a COA without a photo of the exact item described, as part of that COA, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.
We suggest that instead of relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
