Douvilleiceras mammilatum,
Cretaceous (Albian) - approx 110 million yrs
Mahajanga Prov., Madagascar
This is an exceptional specimen.
Natural - Aragonite/calcite replaced as a perfect internal mold.
No external shell remains.
Beautifully polished. High detail suture patterns.
Distinct protruding ribs & tubercles suggest that this genus evolved with additional protection from predators.
Rich, slightly translucent gold and caramel colors.
This unusual coloration in a specimen so nicely polished is rare indeed!
